My name is Ryan Haroldson and I am the new Principal at Great Lakes Elementary. Though I am new to Great Lakes, I am not new to the district. I have spent the last three years serving in the role of Assistant Principal at Superior Middle School. Prior to coming to the School District of Superior, I taught a combination of grades 4, 5, and 6 for eight years.
I am very excited to get started in the Principal role here at Great Lakes Elementary. I†am inheriting an excellent staff and a wonderful student body. As I await the arrival†of staff and students in a few weeks, I feel it important to communicate the following:
Great Lakes will serve all of our students in the best way possible through the means of our district initiatives. PBIS†(Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) will provide a safe and positive climate for all of our students. Literacy will remain at the forefront of classroom instruction. This year, a large emphasis will shift to working to improve our student writers. Teachers will be implementing UOS (Units of Study) curriculum. Units of Study will be a large focus of professional development for our staff this year and we are very optimistic that this will have a positive impact on students' abilities to write and will also transfer into our students becoming better readers. I encourage parents to ask their children about what they are working on in writing at school and also to have their children share some of their writing at home. Math expressions will continue to be our math curriculum. This curriculum†is aligned to the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) and is having a positive impact on our students' math abilities. In addition, teachers will continue to seamlessly weave technology into their instruction in order to engage our students to the greatest degree possible.
As we get closer to the beginning of the school year, I will continue to add important information to this page. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments and/or concerns.
Yours in education,
Principal, Great Lakes Elementary
